One of the easier outdoor bonsai trees to grow is the Satsuki Azalea. This beautiful bonsai features some delicate, red flowers that accent its evergreen leaves. The flowers themselves have a light, fragrant scent that only makes this outdoor bonsai tree that much more interesting. The small leaves themselves are rather bushy, which is a bit different for bonsai. It grows rather slowly, however. This classic bonsai tree makes a great gift, especially for those who are looking for something a bit different. Because it’s fairly easy to grow, it also makes a good gift for anyone who has never tried growing a bonsai tree before or has had bad luck growing plants.

When selecting your Satsuki Azalea, one of the things you want to consider is the pot. The pot of a bonsai is more than just a container to hold the plant. It is a very important part of the overall visual form. You should plant your bonsai in the midline part of the pot, slightly to the left or right of the center line. You want to select a pot that accents the bonsai’s color. In this case, something that will accent the red flowers that the Satsuki Azalea grows.

If you’re looking to add something special to your garden this year you could consider the latest All American Zinnia or one of the newer types of Yellow cherry tomato or maybe pick up one of the outdoor bonsai trees that I say at Zen Garden Bonsai. Every one of those ideas already worked for me (and they’re all on their way to my house right now), but what I saw that really gave me the idea for something different was the solar powered changing color garden lights.

You see it can be challenging to add something to your garden that makes much of a difference at night, but garden lights will do the trick. I love entertaining around my patio and the changing colors add a sense of “party” to even a simple meal with a few friends. One night, just for a change I put the lights into one of my container gardens that sit close to the patio. It was a great way to show off one of the smaller outdoor bonsai trees I acquired last year. My friends didn’t believe that it should be left outdoors but my flowering crabapple came through the winter with flying colors and it was fun to show it off because without the lights they wouldn’t have noticed all the blossoms in the dark.
